Product Overview
A pneumatic plug valve is a quarter-turn rotary valve driven by a pneumatic actuator. It uses a plug with a through-hole as the opening and closing part. By rotating the plug 90° via the pneumatic actuator, the valve can realize quick opening and closing, which is widely used for on-off control of media in industrial pipelines. It features fast action, simple operation, and reliable sealing, making it suitable for various working conditions with medium to low pressure and temperature.
Structural Composition
Pneumatic ActuatorAs the power source of the valve, it is usually composed of a cylinder, piston, and crankshaft mechanism. It converts compressed air energy into mechanical rotary motion to drive the valve plug to rotate. It is available in two types: single-acting and double-acting. The single-acting type relies on a spring to reset, while the double-acting type uses air pressure to drive the valve to open and close in both directions.
Valve BodyThe main pressure-bearing component of the valve, used to connect pipelines and accommodate internal parts such as the valve plug and seat. Common materials include cast iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, etc., which can be selected according to the properties of the medium and working pressure.
Valve PlugThe core opening and closing element of the valve. Its shape is mostly cylindrical or conical. A through-hole is processed in the middle. When the hole is aligned with the valve body channel, the valve is fully open; when it is perpendicular to the channel, the valve is fully closed. The sealing surface is often coated with anti-corrosion and wear-resistant materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to improve sealing performance and service life.
Valve SeatInstalled between the valve body and the valve plug, it plays a role in sealing and positioning, ensuring that there is no leakage between the valve plug and the valve body during the working process.
Auxiliary ComponentsIncluding solenoid valves, positioners, limit switches, etc. The solenoid valve controls the direction of air intake of the pneumatic actuator; the positioner can achieve precise adjustment of the valve opening; the limit switch feeds back the on-off status of the valve to the control system in real time.
Working Principle
Opening ProcessThe control system sends an opening signal to the solenoid valve. Compressed air enters one end of the cylinder of the pneumatic actuator, pushing the piston to move, and driving the valve plug to rotate 90° through the crankshaft mechanism. When the through-hole of the valve plug is completely aligned with the pipeline channel, the medium can pass through the valve smoothly.
Closing ProcessWhen a closing signal is received, the solenoid valve switches the air intake direction. Compressed air enters the other end of the cylinder, driving the valve plug to rotate 90° in the reverse direction until the through-hole is perpendicular to the pipeline channel, cutting off the medium flow.
Reset Mechanism (Single-acting Actuator)In case of air supply failure, the built-in spring of the actuator drives the valve plug to rotate to the preset safe position (normally open or normally closed) to ensure the safety of the pipeline system.
